digital sportsmanship
all sports. all athletes. all abilities.
Digital Sportsmanship is teamwork, fairness, inclusion, character, self-control, courage, persistence, kindness, grace, respect, integrity online.
Our Mission
The Digital Citizenship Institute is committed to positively changing conversations and culture around technology and social media use. Our message is proactive as we model how to make digital sportsmanship an action, something we practice and do every single day on and off the field, court, online, rink, pool, and stage.
The Problem
The stories we hear around athletes and social media focus on what NOT to do online. The headlines we read highlight stories about athletes being kicked off teams, losing scholarships, and ruining lives. Unfortunately, negativity fuels negativity and we often find ourselves in a reactive situation where our message around social media is a long list of don’ts..
Our Solution
Our digital sportsmanship program is for all teams, sports, athletes, and abilities. Through our self-paced course, entire teams including coaches, athletes, players, officials, parents, caregivers, and fans learn to use technology for good, to solve problems and create solutions. Teams learn how to create positive and powerful shifts in how we engage online through
in-person or online sessions. Upon completion of the program, teams receive digital sportsmanship badging and certification.
